Here’s the thing. Elopements are no longer something that stay in Las Vegas or have to be “secretive.” Leave your perceptions behind, because elopements are a completely customizable and special way to say “I do!” And now more than ever with COVID-19 still very real, couples are choosing to elope as a savvy, creative solution to still having their wedding day, but with a small guest count (or no guests at all) in a location that’s closer to home and completely stress-free. The “elope now, party later” attitude might just be the perfect solution for couples who still want to get married in 2020 and plan the big party later when larger gatherings are permitted again. Imagine getting married at a cabin in the woods in the White Mountains, surrounded by your best people. Maybe you’d rather camp overnight in a fire lookout to exchange your vows in front of a stunning mountain sunrise in Acadia National Park. I am just getting started with the many ways you can craft your dream day, filled with adventure and details unique to your story right here in New England.

Feeling inspired by the many couples who have pursued to elope already this year and others who are considering it, I set out to find the perfect elopement destination less than 20 minutes from Boston. You don’t have to drive very far from the city to quickly be in the countryside and enjoy the many open public spaces throughout Massachusetts. After finding the perfect spot surrounded by lush trees and green fields, I instantly knew I wanted to create a cozy elopement picnic. Picnics are the perfect way to celebrate your elopement and toast to the promises you made to each other without too much fuss or planning needed. A soft blanket or gorgeous throw rug, a few candles, your favorite assortment of foods, and a bottle of champagne are really all you need! (Of course, you could always go more elaborate if that’s your style.)

For this elopement, my mood board consisted of ALL things boho—macrame, a rattan peacock chair, a vintage rug, pillows with tassels, and earthy dinnerware. Staying in the spirit of designing tablescapes with the things I already have at home as part of my Stay at Home Tablescape series, I was able to compile all of these elements using what I already had around my own home. I intentionally choose an earthy palette with browns, rusts, and natural tones knowing they would contrast against the location full of lush greens.

As always, my Stay at Home Tablescapes include one element that I choose to splurge on. And This time it was florals (so worth it!). I am so lucky to have recently met Britni, owner of Two Stems of Joy on Instagram. Loving her work, I knew her florals would pull the entire look together, and wow, did she nail it! The huge brownie peony! The hand-dyed eucalyptus and pampas grass! SWOON! What I love about how all of this came together is this elopement picnic could be taken mountaintop to the riverbanks or even indoors. And how a few small touches can make a simple picnic a dreamy way to celebrate saying “I do!”

The spirit of this series has been all about working with what I already have. The gorgeous rattan chair for example was my husband’s grandfathers and the vintage glassware are my grandmother’s. With an elopement, micro wedding, or intimate gathering it’s much more feasible to incorporate a few special statement pieces you already own and still create a beautiful setting while letting your unique story shine through details that are uniquely yours. If you are thinking about eloping or even wondering where to begin and you’d like someone to guide you through elopement planning and design process, get in touch! I’d love to create an elopement day perfect for YOU.
